Software Safety Program Plans

This is a comprehensive seminar on Software Safety Program Plans.

The Software Safety Program Plan (SwSPP) or Software System Safety Program Plan (SwSSPP) is subordinate to the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP).

We live in a world full of safety-critical systems. SSPPs have become very common place. However, many of these systems are software-intensive. All too often though, the SSPP is the only safety plan. There is no SwSPP and, in many cases, there is not even a section in the SSPP dedicated to software safety. This is a serious omission.

And ... if you think that IEEE 1228 is the answer, perhaps you should consider becoming a comedian. Move over Robin Williams! The Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook does not help much. Neither does the FAA System Safety Handbook.

Perhaps you need to comply with the Australian Defence Force Technical Airworthiness Management Manual (TAMM), or its Airworthiness Design Requirements Manual (ADRM).

Insight into SwSPPs is based on over 20 years of experience in software safety in the safety-critical sectors of defense, aviation, nuclear power, rail transportation, and medical devices.

Presenter

David "Hunter" Levan received BSc. and MSc. degrees magna cum laude in electrical engineering. He was awarded scholarships to attend M.I.T. for his PhD.

With 35 years of experience in real-time systems he is famous for his knowledge and experience in system safety and software safety. His experience spans 24 years in defense, aviation, nuclear power, medical device, and rail (light and heavy) system sectors.

Hunter has been teaching system safety and software safety courses for 18 years. Standing ovations are common.

He was the consultant who was brought on board by the manufacturer of the THERAC-25 cancer therapy machine following the accidents in Tyler, Texas. This was to be the first of several forensic analyses of safety-related systems that he conducted.

He has received commendations for his consulting efforts and has appeared on television. He is known for his key note speaking engagements and continues to receive invitations from organizations and interest groups to participate in conferences and to sit on technical committees.

When Hunter speaks, everyone listens.
